Define the habits that improve your workplace and then run like clockwork

Discipline in the workplace aids performance. We all know how disciplined Olympic athletes are. They don’t neglect the little things, but businesses who are operating in a reactive ‘headless chicken’ mode do.

Create your own systems

Successful businesses create systems that ensure that the little (but important) things are not neglected. I can help you identify the things your business needs to do in order for it to run like clockwork and can help you develop the right routines for your business. It is my firm belief that routines deliver results, but should not instil rigidity, and I will work with you to develop flexible but disciplined ways of working that create tangible benefits.

It’s all in the routine

By working with you to develop effective routines, I will help your business to gain efficiency through effectiveness and ensure that you have time to develop your business rather than be constantly ‘fire fighting’. Time and time again I see performance step up when disciplined routines are maintained.

My clients have seen (what they perceived to be) months worth of work devoured in just minutes when incorporated into an appropriate routine of working.

Tips to get you started

  • Collate a list of things that always get done last minute and schedule them into your diaries, with the appropriate amount of time to complete the task next time.
  • Look for areas in your business that aren’t in good order (physically or from an information point of view) and decide on what would be needed on a regular basis to keep on top of the situation.
  • Use visual management (such as Kamishibai boards) to make keeping on top of your routines easier.
Share the routines and keep working on your disciplines!

Why it’s worth doing

When you implement routines of working they don’t become something else to do, they free you up from fire fighting and expediting activities. They also help your business to run in a more repeatable fashion. You can always start small and build up, can’t you?
